ABSTRACT

Wearable physiological parameter monitoring devices play an increasingly important role in daily health monitoring and disease diagnosis/treatment due to their continuous dynamic and low physiological/psychological load characteristics. After decades of development, wearable technologies have gradually matured, and research has expanded to clinical applications. This paper reviews the research progress of wearable physiological parameter monitoring technology and its clinical applications. Firstly, it introduces wearable physiological monitoring technology's research progress in terms of sensing technology and data processing and analysis. Then, it analyzes the monitoring physiological parameters and principles of current medical-grade wearable devices and proposes three specific directions of clinical application research: 1) real-time monitoring and predictive warning, 2) disease assessment and differential diagnosis, and 3) rehabilitation training and precision medicine. Finally, the challenges and response strategies of wearable physiological monitoring technology in the biomedical field are discussed, highlighting its clinical application value and clinical application mode to provide helpful reference information for the research of wearable technology-related fields.

ABSTRACT

Auricular defects may be congenital or acquired and are the second most common craniofacial malformation. There are two main treatments: surgical reconstruction or prosthetic rehabilitation. The former is as great a challenge to surgeons because of the complex shape and size of the human ear. On the other hand, rehabilitation with a prosthetic ear matched to the contra lateral ear provides a better morphologic result. Presented in this article is a case report of a patient with an acquired auricular defect managed with a prosthesis made of elastic silicone material.

ABSTRACT

Indeed, medicinal importance of honey has been documented in the world's oldest medical literatures, and since the ancient times, it has been known to possess antimicrobial property as well as wound-healing activity. The healing property of honey is due to the fact that it offers antibacterial activity, maintains a moist wound condition, and its high viscosity helps to provide a protective barrier to prevent infection. Its immunomodulatory property is relevant to wound repair too. The antimicrobial activity in most honeys is due to the enzymatic production of hydrogen peroxide. However, another kind of honey, called non-peroxide honey (viz., manuka honey), displays significant antibacterial effects even when the hydrogen peroxide activity is blocked. Its mechanism may be related to the low pH level of honey and its high sugar content (high osmolarity) that is enough to hinder the growth of microbes. The medical grade honeys have potentin vitrobactericidal activity against antibiotic-resistant bacteria causing several life-threatening infections to humans. But, there is a large variation in the antimicrobial activity of some natural honeys, which is due to spatial and temporal variation in sources of nectar. Thus, identification and characterization of the active principle(s) may provide valuable information on the quality and possible therapeutic potential of honeys (against several health disorders of humans), and hence we discussed the medicinal property of honeys with emphasis on their antibacterial activities.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To appraise the bacteriostatic and blocking effect and cost construction of different kinds of materials.METHODS To divide all items into three parts at random:cotton fabric,paper-plastic package, and medical grade wrinkle paper and to study the bacteriostatic and blocking effect and cost construction of them.RESULTS Paper-plastic package and medical grade wrinkle paper had better bacteriostatic and blocking properties than cotton fabric.Comparing with cotton fabric,paper-plastic package and medical grade wrinkle paper could reduce the cost separately by 27% and 50%;the cost of wrinkle paper was lower than paper-plastic package by 32%.CONCLUSIONS Paper-plastic package and wrinkle paper have better effect on blocking bacteria and less cost than cotton fabric, which deserve more extensive application in clinic.

ABSTRACT

Calcium sulfate has a long history of medical use as an implant material. The biocompatibility of the material has been clearly established. Bone ingrowth concomitant with resorption occurs rapidly with efficient conduction of bone from particle to particle. Calcium sulfate also has a potential for functioning as a good barrier membrane. The purpose of this study was to compare the biocompatibility of different types of calcium sulfate grafting materials including an experimental calcium sulfate compound on periodontal ligament cells in vitro as a preliminary test towards the development of a more convenient and useful form of grafting material which could promote regeneration of periodontal tissue. Human periodontal ligament cells were collected from the premolar teeth extracted for orthodontic treatment. Cells were cultured in alpha-MEM culture medium containing 20% FBS, at 37degrees C and 100% humidity, in a 5% CO2 incubator. Cells were cultured into 96 well culture plate 1x104cells per well with alpha-MEM and incubated for 24 hours. After discarding the medium, those cells were cultured in alpha-MEM contained with 10% FBS alone(control group), in medcal-grade calcium sulfate(MGCS group), in plaster(plaster group), experimental calcium sulfate paste(CS paste group) for 1, 2, 3 day respectively. And then each group was characterized by examining of the cell counting, MTT assay, collagen synthesis. The results were as follows. 1. In the analysis of cell proliferation by cell counting, both medical-grade calcium sulfate group and plaster group showed no stastically significant difference at day 1, 2, 3 accept for plaster group at day 1 compared to control group, but there was stastically significant difference between CS paste group and all other groups at day 1, 2, 3(P<0.05). 2. In the analysis of cytotoxicity by MTT assay, both medical-grade calcium sulfate group and plaster group showed no stastically significant difference compared to control group at day 1, 2, 3 but there was stastically significant difference between CS paste group and all other groups at day 1, 2, 3(P<0.05). 3. In the analysis of collagen synthesis by immunoblotting assay, high level was detected for medical-grade calcium sulfate group and plaster group at day 1, 2, 3 compared to CS paste group. On the basis of these results, medical-grade calcium sulfate and plaster was shown to possess biocompatibility whereas the CS paste had unfavourable outcome. This observation shows a need for modification of the materials contained in calcium sulfate paste.
